About Cane Bay Cares

Cane Bay Cares is the service initiative of St. Croix-based Cane Bay Partners VI, LLLP

Cane Bay Cares was established after a series of formidable hurricanes battered the U.S. Virgin Islands during September 2017. The original purpose of the initiative was to provide relief to St. John and St. Thomas after Hurricane Maria left a considerable trail of devastation.

Two weeks after Hurricane Maria destroyed St. Thomas and St. John, Hurricane Irma descended upon St. Croix. As if Maria had not been enough, Irma dealt a crushing blow to the citizens of the Virgin Islands. According to American Journal of Public Health, “The emergency response to both hurricanes in all 3 USVI islands brought in an estimated 13 000 service and rescue personnel, resulted in the evacuation of close to 800 patients, left almost 40 000 without power, and generated in excess of 200 000 million cubic yards of debris.”

Seeing their beloved Virgin Islands ravaged by these Hurricanes made David Johnson and Kirk Chewning, founding partners of Cane Bay Partners VI, LLLP, realize that they needed to play a bigger part in assisting USVI’s citizens and infrastructure.

The initiative’s goal is to provide altruistic services to the citizens of St. Croix. This includes food drives, natural disaster relief, environmental restoration, and education programs, among others.

To make this possible, we have partnered with the St. Croix Foundation, which is a 501c3 nonprofit that was established in 1990. All donations to Cane Bay Cares are donations to St. Croix Foundation and are 100% tax deductible.
