The Sound of a Disaster and of Recovery
Storytelling takes all the senses, including hearing. Whether you have been lucky enough to hear the ocean crashing against the shore on St. Croix, or unlucky enough to hear Hurricane Maria ravage the island – there are many sounds that tell our story. And one sound in particular, or rather a collection of sounds and…

The Relief to Rebuild distribution was a success thanks to our army of volunteers and partners! And, if we’re naming names, Kyle Lajoie, who has been coordinating our distributions from the start, Max Brabell, who coordinated dozens of volunteers, and Amy Parker de Sorbo, who runs the St. George Village Botanical Garden, really stepped up…

It’s a new year, it’s a new day for Cane Bay Cares. The island of St. Croix is about 95% energized and the need for immediate supplies has waned. But the needs on island are still great. About 50% of the public schools on St. Croix were condemned and are no longer in use –…

Over the last four months, we have delivered aid to thousands of St. Croix residents. We solicited donations, we placed orders, we packed shipping containers, we cleared shipments through Customs, we set up distribution sites, we bagged goods and we handed out those goods. And we did it all because of a dedicated group of…

There is a routine with storms, an almost musical flow with how things unfold: Prep, hunker down, aftermath. Then come the mosquitoes, then comes the mold. Well, we are at the mold stage. And people are spent. For the past three months, the residents of St. Croix have mostly been living without power, without full…

There are so many wonderful organizations working to help bring aid and long-term recovery support to the Virgin Islands and St. Croix in particular. Most of us are figuring it out as we go, setting up supply chains, connecting the right resources and partnering with critical organizations that already have one aspect covered. We’ve developed…

We have been humbled by the community’s response to water distributions throughout St. Croix. About 18,000 bottles were distributed to hundreds of people from west to east in the wake of hurricanes Irma and Maria. More than a month after both hurricanes barreled through, most residents are still short on supplies and without basic necessities…
Read MoreSpread the Word About the Plight of the U.S. Virgin Islands
Virgin Islanders are used to being misunderstood, even ignored. It happens when you are traveling stateside and people do a double take before accepting your USVI driver’s license, when you go to pay for something online only to find no option for the VI when state is a required field, or when you try to…

Cane Bay Cares is a service initiative of St. Croix-based Cane Bay Partners VI, LLLP. Cane Bay Cares was established after three strong hurricanes, including two Category 5 storms, Irma and Maria, caused much damage to St. Croix during September 2017. The initiative has a goal of providing relief to the citizens of St. Croix. To make this possible, we have partnered with St. Croix Foundation, which is a 501c3 nonprofit that was established in 1990. All donations to Cane Bay Cares are donations to St. Croix Foundation and are 100% tax deductible.

Cane Bay Partners VI, LLLP was formed in June 2009 and founded by internationally experienced business executives with many years of experience in the financial services industry. Focusing our efforts primarily in the financial services industry, our management consulting practice specializes in providing services to clients in need of sophisticated risk management models, debt collections organizations which require liquidation models and analytics, and portfolio management companies desiring a variety of services.

Since 1990, St. Croix Foundation for Community Development has been advancing holistic community development as a pathway to economic prosperity, self-sufficiency, and sustainability. Established in the wake of Hurricane Hugo, today the Foundation is one of the premier place-based philanthropic leaders in the Virgin Islands. Having served as the conduit of over $37 million private and public sector dollars invested into the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Foundation’s impact has netted national recognition in almost every priority area – from economic development and community revitalization to public health, education reform, and nonprofit development. Our mission is to encourage greater philanthropic activity, to marshal resources, and to act as a catalyst to benefit the people of the Virgin Islands.
